Compound-Complex Sentences

A compound-complex sentence consists of at least two  independent clauses  and at least one  dependent clause.

         --We lost the game because our quarterback got injured and our defense could not stop                        their running back.

          --Before the bell rang, Mr. Amparan assigned four chapters and his students groaned.

          --The Thao family could not do yard work because it rained all day; instead, the kids                              organized their closets, and Mr. and Mrs. Thao canned tomatoes that they had                            picked the day before.
