        --Mike's favorite thing to do is to read.         to read is the

    --To read is Mike's favorite thing to do.      to read is the subject

   --Mike's plan to read was put on hold

   because his mom asked him to wash

   the dishes.                                                                         to read functions as an adjective

   --Mike went to the library to read.                     to read functions as an adverb
